Configure another harness

Make Codex, pi or opencode read pair and run it headless, and declare which harnesses the project supports.

Goal: make another AI harness (Codex, pi, opencode) read pair, interactively and as an engine for unattended runs.

Prerequisites

  • A pair-enabled project
  • The harness installed and authenticated

Steps

  1. Pick the harness: read its page, Codex, pi or opencode. Which modes each one supports: Modes by assistant.
  2. Install the targets it reads
    • With pair-cli: pair-cli install --list-targets shows the registries; pair-cli install writes the bridge files and skill directories every supported harness discovers.
  3. Declare it
    • In your assistant: /pair-capability-setup-harness writes ## Harness (and optionally ## Model Policy) in tech/automation.md.
    • With /pair-assistant (optional, Claude Code): "switch the harness to pi".
  4. Try it headless (optional)
    • With pair-cli: pair-cli run --card <id> --engine <pi|opencode|codex|claude> --dry-run.

Verify

  • The harness lists the pair skills and reads AGENTS.md.
  • pair-cli run --dry-run names the engine you declared.
